DocuCalc is a MS Excel template which allows for quick calculation, revision, and print-out of documentary television and film production budgets, formatted in the Telefilm Canada standard, conventionally used in Canadian film and TV production. The user enters price and amount of item or services used in pre-assigned categories, shooting ratio, contingency rates, and DocuCalc does the rest, calculating totals and assigning them to their production categories in the Top Sheet summary of the budget.
USA users will find DocuCalc equally useful in calculating, adjusting and printing out documentary budgets, as US budget formats are similar to Canadian ones. What makes DocuCalc, however, Canadian-specific are the account numbers assigned to the various budget categories–they reflect common Canadian government Telefilm funding agency usage. US users can choose to use the same budget account numbers or substitute their own. [click above to see sample budget pages.]
DocuCalc features:
- Standard Telefilm Canada / Canadian Television Fund – format for Documentary Production Budgets
- 2 Page Top Sheet and 22 Page detailed breakdowns
- Automatically compiles Top Sheet Summary from detailed entries
- Option to enter quick budget summary into Top Sheet bypassing detailed entries
- Automatic contingency calculation
- Categories for video and film
- Built in film footage shooting ratio calculator
- Documentary version of budget excludes in the Detailed Breakdown items associated with drama production such as makeup, props, set building, studio backlot expenses, etc. Top Sheet, however, lists all items, allowing for direct entry of summarized items normally associated with feature and drama production (for documentary dramatizations, for example.)
(Full Feature and Drama budget available soon.) - Designed by a filmmaker for filmmakers.
- Runs in MS Excel 95/97/2000 spreadsheet programs.
